The Magic of the 60's

"To those of my generation who once held high ideals - It's NEVER TOO LATE to make this change! I became vegan in my sixties, after a lifetime of believing that vegetarianism was enough. My generation are the children of the 60's, many of us "dropped out" of the dominant culture, we became vegetarian, we held ideals & ideas of peace & love, we envisaged a better world.

Large numbers of us became politicized, campaigned for a society free from racism, sexism, heterosexism, ageism & all the other isms that create enmity. We understood how personal change is empowering and crucial to how societies progress. We achieved much, but not enough. Let's re-kindle our youthful belief in a better world. Let's join in solidarity with the younger generation. Let's wake up to the truth. Justice and equality demand that we fully embrace veganism and an end to the false and destructive construct of speciesism. Peace and Love to all beings.”

This is really a wonderful site! I’m excited to find it, because even though I started out my adult life (late 60’s, early 70’s) on the “right track”, I somehow lost my way, but just in the last couple of years have reconnected to my “roots” and become Vegan, and trying to do what I can to leave the world a little better than I found it. Facebook has helped tremendously but I decided to step it up a notch, and that’s when I found this blog. Thanks!

Thank-you Helen. There's much info for you to go through here. I've been vegan for 3 decades and have accumulated much knowledge. Enjoy.

well its nearly midnight im doing a huge research project and i stumbled across this writing while searching for possible cultural influences on writer, Arnold Drake in the sixties. i have to say honestly im not vegan and sadly im not ignorant to the brutality of the livestock grown for mass production. but on the subject of the writing i enjoyed the part of personal change being crucial in the progression of society being a part of the new generation of young adults i feel it important that all of my peers become aware that any change whether it be as small as throwing away every piece of trash in trash can or as large as becoming vegan will affect the society that is already showing signs of being damaged beyond disrepair unless the ignorant youth of today opens their mind to see the damage that we as humans are causing one day i hope to live in an earth ship somewhere hillside with a small family and live the eco-modern lifestyle fantasy
-im james im 16 and im going to do something one day... how about you?
